Durfee Conservatory

Image
If you're ever stressed out of your mind, if you're ever overwhelmed with absolutely anything in your life and you are around or go to UMass Amherst I highly recommend heading to the Durfee Conservatory that is right in front of UHS. There is something about it that just makes your stress disappear for the moments that you're inside. There are some seats and benches inside in case you want to make your stay longer than a stroll right through.  I do believe that nature has this power over us, a healing power. When you walk into the conservatory you immediately feel as if you're in another world. Everything is so beautiful, the aroma is sweet but natural at the same time. The temperature is always different inside too. My favorite part is the lighting, the natural lighting definitely helps with the soothing, relaxing power.  Whenever you're walking by and they're open, go in. It is so worth it, and if you haven't been inside before you probably loo

Cruise-In

Image
This Saturday my church put together a cruise-in where we had 37 pre-1988 cars parked on our lawn for the public to see. There was also a bake sale, burgers, hot dogs, a book sale, and yard sale and it was so much fun. I took some amateur photos on my phone but wanted to share them with everyone. and then just a picture of a kid sliding down the hill in a box at the end of the day

Back To University

Image
I have started my second year here at UMass and to be honest I'm feeling pretty confident in myself. My roommate from last year who ended up being one of my best friends is studying abroad this semester so the friend train is pretty much non existent right now, but I'm working on it. I plan on being more involved with UPC (our university's programming council). There are a few kids from last year who are also doing it again so I'm hoping to becoming closer with them. I have a few friends from high school on campus but we all have super different schedules and some of them are in relationships which always makes life a little more hectic. UMass has construction going on everywhere as usual, but this year it is getting in the way of my shortest routes to certain places. Also, going to the gym has been a major struggle because I feel like I constantly have reading or some sort of work to do that I feel like I can't put aside like 2 hours or the gym. I have a few

My Beautiful Little Sister

Image
My sister is Ashley and she has the most beautiful smile. There's nothing that makes me more happy than knowing she is happy and in a good mood. She doesn't see how beautiful she really is and it's a shame. She hides in her room and talks to her friends, in her deep dark cave of a bedroom. But she means to much to the family, her opinions, just knowing she's in the room makes the family just seem so right, so content. Look at this smile.... Some of my favorite memories are shopping with her, singing in the car with her, when she comes to visit me at college and we don't even really do anything, or even on vacation when we just couldn't stop laughing when we were in our room while looking at those parasailing pictures. YES! Her amazing idea to go parasailing, it was a great way for our family to bond (even though my mother and I were super nervous). She doesn't seem to understand how much her happiness brings to the family, how her "crazy&

The Popular Kids

The popular kids will never understand the fear of starting a new school year and being afraid of having no friends in your classes. The popular kids will never need to worry about what lunch block they have because they'd always have somebody to sit with. The popular kids never had to worry about trying out for sports or music groups because they'd always have friends on the team. The popular kids never had to worry about heading off to college and hoping that they would hopefully find at least one friend in their building. The popular kids never started to sweat when the teacher said it was time to pair up and do partner work. The popular kids never worried about presenting in front of the class because they could just put in a few jokes or two and the entire class would laugh because 90% of the class were their friends. The popular kids never had to worry about what they wore to school because no matter what it was it always seemed to turn into a trend. The popular k

"A Pivotal Place"

AUX Cords and Itchy Seats April 22 2012. I heard the word “pancakes” and immediately woke up despite the fact that it was seven in the morning. I probably would have been the epitome of an irritable sixteen-year-old girl if it hadn’t been an absolutely gorgeous day, and of course my dad was taking me out for breakfast. We decided to go breakfast in Oxford which is about twenty minutes away from my house, which is also the town that I worked in, and I swear to God I can probably close my eyes and recall every single detail of the route from my house until the center of Oxford. It is just one long road that all looks the same, except for some occasional chickens wandering the roads, some random cows chewing on some grass on the side of the road, and a couple of areas that were a little more thickly settled. One thing about this route that I despised was the same thing that I was grateful for; For almost three-quarters of the way there was absolutely no cell service or Internet for yo

In My Dream World

In my dream world I would be attending Boston University and living with my best friend Olivia. I would be studying Communication Disorders there and getting all A's. I would have a job or be famous on Youtube. I would understand the T completely and wouldn't need a car. I would be 120 pounds and all the clothing I would wear would be neutral colors. I would start an internship the summer going into my Junior Year at a place near my house. I would study abroad my Junior Year and miraculously come back speaking the other language fluently. I would graduate and attend grad school in either Boston or California, and then have my own private practice as a Speech Pathologist in Boston or a city like that, and I would buy a house or a loft apartment.
