UMass Slamherst: Year One

Image
Born and raised in Massachusetts, and now continuing my education in Massachusetts. I desperately wanted to go to school in Boston, but had to settle for UMass Amherst due to money reasons...and maybe my lack of motivation. Let me tell you a little bit about my experience at UMass Amherst, at first glance it seems as large as a city and it is sort of overwhelming, and coming from a town that's population is 1/3 of UMass', I know. For the first couple of weeks...okay maybe just until you start classes, the campus is intimidating and walking to your friends dorm across campus feels like it's across the country. But once classes start and you have a general idea of where things are, the campus shrinks tremendously. You find efficient routes, shortcuts, secret beauties like the conservatory for some reason. I decided to live in Central Residential Area and was assigned to live in Van Meter and was devastated at first because it is on the top of a hill that feels like a mount

New York: Times Square

Image
Friday, June 12th  My family decided that going to New York City would be a nice trip for a long weekend. We stayed at the Sheraton near Times Square, which was super nice by the way. It took us a little less than five hours to get there, which wouldn't have been that bad if I hadn't forgotten to get a bagel or something for breakfast when we stopped at 7:00 am for a little Dunkin Donuts.  BUT WOW. Times Square was so much fun, being around so many people at one time and not worrying about anything but how anyone could possibly put a billboard that big anywhere. They have the most popular stores but just three times the normal size. They have every food you could possibly imagine but also way over priced. The architecture is sort of fantastic and Central Park is super close which is also incredibly large and also beautiful. Without the help of the police there, I don't know if I would have ever made it out alive. Okay, there were plenty of food stands, I probably would

Girlfriend from Oregon

My immediate family and extended family all live within a 15 minute drive from each other (with one or two exceptions). A good amount of my cousins are 28-34 years old, and then there's two that are 24-years old, then a handful of us that are 1 9 years old, my sister is 17, then the rest are around 10 or newborn. My mom has 3 sisters and my father has 2 sisters and 2 brothers, so our family is a pretty good size which means that all of our family get togethers are pretty loud and just overall a wonderful time. I have one cousin in particular, Josh, who is 24 and has never had a lot of luck with girls. He went to a technical high school and then went to a technical college for two years. He has had a couple jobs but never had a girlfriend. I've actually talked to him like twice in my entire life, he's just super quiet. He still lives at home, which is totally normal. I ran into my Aunt while I was accompanying my mother to the doctor's office at and ran into my Aunt

Road Trip: Massachusetts to the Outer Banks

Image
In May of 2014 I graduated from high school. I had switched high schools after my freshman year, so my friends from my hometown decided it's be fun to go down to my friend Kate's grandma's house. It would be an eleven to thirteen hour road trip, and we were determined to make good time and make the most of our time in the Outer Banks so we left promptly at three-o-clock in the morning. There were six of us, so we took two separate cars since it would be impossible to fit all of our luggage into one car. But Kate's mom wrote us directions so that we wouldn't hit the George Washington Bridge. Last year, our first year, we left on a Monday and hit much more traffic and we stopped way too many times and honestly, were just way to uptight about everything. We made sure we could always see each other at all times and to make sure we hit every rest stop. We made good time, but all of us were so cranky. On the way back home, we drove for 7 hours and then stayed at a ho
I always thought that working at an office must be so easy and mind bottling-ly boring. I myself have been working in an office for a little over two years, but while I was in high school I worked like 3 hours a day. Then when any vacation time came, I would work 8 am- 2 pm. It wasn't that bad, definitely boring but not as bad as I had expected. But this week one of the girls went down to Myrtle Beach for vacation so I was able to pick up some more hours and help out with scanning, renaming, and organizing files. Sure, it doesn't sound that bad until you realize you've spent 24 hours over the past three days renaming files, JUST renaming files. HOW?! I don't understand how anyone can handle sitting in a chair for 8 hours a day...well not having a choice to. Also, it's Thursday and i feel like someone is stabbing from my shoulder up to my ear. I never realized how much self-discipline one would need in order to successfully work in an office. I mean, I make it throug
