New York: Times Square

Friday, June 12th

My family decided that going to New York City would be a nice trip for a long weekend. We stayed at the Sheraton near Times Square, which was super nice by the way. It took us a little less than five hours to get there, which wouldn't have been that bad if I hadn't forgotten to get a bagel or something for breakfast when we stopped at 7:00 am for a little Dunkin Donuts.

BUT WOW. Times Square was so much fun, being around so many people at one time and not worrying about anything but how anyone could possibly put a billboard that big anywhere. They have the most popular stores but just three times the normal size. They have every food you could possibly imagine but also way over priced. The architecture is sort of fantastic and Central Park is super close which is also incredibly large and also beautiful. Without the help of the police there, I don't know if I would have ever made it out alive. Okay, there were plenty of food stands, I probably would have survived even being over 80 degrees.

All of the Broadway Musical Billboards were amazing, we waited in line for the Discount Ticket Booth and got tickets for our Number #2 show, Phantom of the Opera. And wow, the theatre was so intimate and the musical was mind blowing. So much talent, and also great kit kats and specialty drinks.

I definitely recommend browsing through the vendors that are often on Broadway (the street) and try some of the random foods that they have, especially if there's food from the Halal guys because they are awesome (also a food truck throughout the city). Definitely try a freshly made smoothie from a vendor or a food truck that blends up the fresh fruit right in front of you, they are the best and super fresh.
