What Not to Bring: Dorm Living

  • Tons of Decor Pillows: They may look cute when on your bed, but at night time they can sort of take over your room and take up a lot of room in your car
  • All-Season clothing: if you live close enough to come you'll be able to get your winter clothes
  • High Heels: when you go to college parties most girls wear sandals and sneakers, it's much more comfortable, and the floors at parties are generally pretty gross, also it's never really that warm at night so walking to parties in heels and short skirts/dresses isn't the best option
  • Figurines: they take up a ton of space on your desk, maybe a one or two is fine, but table space is limited in college
  • More than 10 pairs of shoes: i find that in college i wear the same shoes all the time.
    • I like having two pairs of converse, one pair of vans, one pair on sandals (maybe two), one pair of flats, my bean boots, running sneakers, crocs, moccasins
  • Microwave: Your dorm will most likely have a kitchen inside of it with a stove, fridge, microwave
  • Fridge: Don't buy, RENT it. Mini-fridges are super annoying to store and try to fit in your car during move out
  • Printer: Your dorm 100% has printers on campus for you to use
  • Pajama Pants: the dorms are never cold enough to wear pants to bed
  • Kitchen Things: You probably won't need bowls, or a coffee maker, or a Brita filter
    • There is coffee on campus, you won't eat in your dorm as much as you think you will, most dorms have water filter bubblers in them.
    • 1-2 Mugs are good to have if you like tea
  • Purse: maybe i'm just weird but I found that at school I NEVER brought my purse anywhere, I always used my backpack, whether it was going into town/city, or going to CVS, or even out to eat with friends
    • You especially don't need them at parties

***Wall Decor is the way to go in college, it doesn't take any space away from you and is fairly easy to store/pack after the year is over
